DP 8 new editing features?

Post by martian »

never being one to upgrade in a hurry - but jumped onto the last of the quad core mac mini's has taken me to 10.8.5 and DP 7.24

have been splitting my time with Protools on some movie stuff - but for episodic Post - DP on the new mac has some advantages for me..

but a couple of edit function I miss - wondering if these are addressed in DP 8 ?

I thought I read there were some new 'wiper' functions in DP8?

as in moving or pasting things to wiper? - ( in DP 7 u can paste to wiper as long as no selection in time line - ie you have to copy item - then apple D for desalt - then paste will past at wiper...

what are the update editing functions for moving / snapping audio

also regarding quickkeys? I tried to program a mouse click so I could move scroll wheel on mouse to either move a clip on the time line - or change clip gain

unfortunately seems like the 'input box' moves according to the name of the clip :banghead:

so its manually moving the pointer over.. shame

The wiper thing is, IIRC, the MIDI Graphic Edit Window. It used to be hard to paste something where you wanted it to go. Now it's easy. It's not a new feature, just full functionality restored to an old one.

This link takes you to a summary of what is new in DP 8:

and some videos summarizing new features:

…string theory says that all subatomic particles of the universe are nothing but musical notes. A, B-flat, C-sharp, correspond to electrons, neutrinos, quarks, and what have you. Therefore, physics is nothing but the laws of harmony of these strings. Chemistry is nothing but the melodies we can play on these strings. The universe is a symphony of strings and the mind of God… it is cosmic music resonating through 11 dimensional hyperspace.

WTH? when did DP get a demo?

does that mean the PDF help files in there?

I might try installing on my laptop or my old mac pro first - was soo pleased how easy the transition from 10.6.8 to 10.8.5 went - I know I could have gone further - but I just wanted to work!

looks like the videos focus on the bling new features ? - having said that a de-esser would be awesome!

looking thru the blurb - cant see mention of the paste / move to wiper...

not sure when I will have time to download tho.. so little free time - dont want to mess a working system up - and plugging in the old mac isnt so easy either...

will DP 8 and 7 play nice together if I risk it ( i will clone system drive first maybe? )

mike - if u are unable to help - then pls dont waste your valuable time on admonishments.

and thanks for the portrait MLC - u look exactly how I imagined you did

edit - its actually incredibly intuitive of u - actually that face is exactly my problem! actually its 2 of them.. had twins las year - so life is soooo much busier than before - hence not so much time for reading long threads, lack of sleep etc etc as well as a desire to read stories to my kids - walk in the park etc..

I will try this advanced search you speak of - perhaps if some one has experience or workflows to share on this topic it would be nice,

thanks

Happy to help, but the questions were also answered in the other thread about DP manuals where you asked them yesterday.

I told you that there were many threads that answered all your questions and how to find them.

That's the most helpful advice you've gotten. Apparently you'd rather complain than follow my advice. I can't help you.

It's getting a bit heavy here at the Simon Cowell school of public relations. He was just thinking out loud, and repeating himself.
