Cloud Storage for DP Projects

Post by mmestek »

Has anybody found cloud storage for DP projects. I'm looking for an online storage site where I can manually copy DP projects and maintain the folder and file structure within the project, just as if I was copying to a backup hard drive. All of the cloud services I've reviewed have restrictions on folders which make them unusable for a DP project. I'm not looking for an automated backup service, just online storage.

Zip the contents then upload. All will be saved correctly.

Simple is my middle name... LOL No problem. It's also the best way to email projects to others, otherwise the files get messed up.

I use OneDrive (formerly Skydrive) and I love the way it works. I often work on a project at one studio and by the time I'm at my home studio the project just created is already downloaded and ready to work on at home. I haven't run into any problems using Logic and DP with OneDrive. I have had problems with DropBox, Cubby, and BitCasa.

Thank you for your reply swpowe. Do you also zip the contents of the DP project before uploading?

What MLC suggested, the whole workflow, can be done with the press of one key vía AppleScript or Automator.

I don't zip or compress partly because I'm not archiving I use OneDrive as part of my normal workflow. I can access my projects from anywhere and always have the most recently saved version (autosave or otherwise). This works even if I have the project open on my studio machine and then start working on my home machine (then I'll do a "save as" to create a new version from home.

I'm slowly migrating from Just Cloud to Drop Box (1TB for $99). I've found that I need to zip my DP Project folders before uploading. It's a manual workflow which is fine for archiving. Just Cloud provides scheduled incremental backups and restores. But beware: their "unlimited" plan actually is capped at around 800gb so if you need more than that look elsewhere.

I use Carbon Copy Cloner to do a daily backup of my current project to my iCloud account. I used Jottacloud before also, and had good results.

I tried OneDrive and I'm not able to upload folders. How do you do that?
