separate transport window in DP8?

Post by hamburski »

My apologies if this is covered in the manual or been discussed elsewhere, but a search here didn't reveal anything and the manual is still in the mail as I get up to speed with the download of DP8. I read somewhere on the MOTU site (I think) that you can pop the transport out of the Tracks window (I just moved from 7.24 so I'm still used to a separate transport). But I can't seem to figure out how it's done. Anyone?

DP Preferences - Display>dock (or not). Other options are there as well, but that's the one you're looking for.

Ah, thank you!

Plus, now I know it's called the Control Panel :-).

On a semi-related note, what's the procedure for popping the control panel back into the track window? Or popping the Movie window back into the track window?

For that matter - what the heck has become of the Movie mini-menu in DP8? It seems to have vanished.

My bad, I see the mini-menu question has been addressed elsewhere on this forum. Though I'm still curious about the other stuff.

That's in the Control Panel preferences. The selection that says "Float above other windows" is the one that pops it out or puts it back. Also, running DP in Full Screen will put it back. You can't float the control panel at full screen.

To pop other windows in and out of the Consolidated Windows, double click on the empty space next to the tabs. The active window will show one or more tabs with the name of the window in it (or the names of other windows you can choose). Beside those tabs is some blank space. Double click in that space to pop the window out. Double clicking the same area, more or less, will pop it back in.

It's nice when you look up previous posts in the forum, but don't worry too much about it. When you can't find the answer, just go ahead and ask. Unless there are like 2 or 3 threads currently running and in view on the same topic, we usually don't get bent out of shape, because really everything has been discussed many times. If it were required that all questioners first look for existing posts on the subject, this would be a ghost town, because there is at least one topic for every imaginable subject. Often we have better answers now than we had the first 10 times we explained it.

Seriously, don't worry about it. Look it up if you think to do so, but just ask if you'd rather talk about it anew.

Thanks, Shooshie, for the info and also the slack about re-posting about things. I'm glad to hear it's not the criminal offense I imagined it to be :-). I've learned so much every time I've posted or surfed around on this forum.

All squared away now with the control panel, but since there are no tabs on the Movie window I can't see a way to stick it back into consolidated windows like it was before I dragged it out. Dragging it back doesn't seem to be the ticket...

There's a menu item and a keyboard command for that. I never use those, so I have forgotten them without looking them up. Try looking up the words "pop out" in the forum. That'll probably lead you where you want to go. If it will look up multiple words, try "pop out, consolidated windows"

[edit] Never mind... I looked it up. It's on page 97 of the DP8 manual.
  • Keyboard command to Pop-in/pop-out: CONTROL-1
Menu: Window / Pop Out of/Into Consolidated Window
If you want another command at the keyboard, look it up in the Commands Window and add your own key binding.

Magnificent! Thanks again. Could have sworn I tried that previously, but clearly I hadn't. Yes, been reviewing/setting up key commands already, which is great. I couldn't figure out how to import my window sets, so I'm rebuilding them as I go.

Are you familiar with the Load command? Under the File menu, Load opens another project and allows you to copy pretty much anything. Be careful to check the right boxes before hitting OK.

Yes, I've used it a few times before, usually to try and rescue corrupted files (not very successfully, but I'm at least familiar with how it functions now). I didn't think the window sets would import along with a specific project, but I'll give it a shot.
