8gb RAM vs 16gb RAM...is it worth it??
Hello,
Currently I am running the October 2009 imac 27inch screen with the max processor. I have always had 8gb of RAM. I run DP7 (but am considering moving up to and was wondering if I would notice a jump in performance with 16gb of RAM. Would I notice more of an improvement if I just upgraded to DP8? Or would both be the best option? Currently I am still running OS 10.6 because it has always been stable for me. Thanks for any help you can give!

Absolutely. More RAM will certainly improve things on the entire system.

64 bit operation allows us to make good use of the additional memory. I now run DP8.07 64 bit mode under ML 10.8.5 and it has been a dream for me.spencer4t wrote:Hello,

I wish I said that, but then had I done so, I might have been attacked by a lurking troll. We still have a few. Saw one just last night. Bastia!sdfalk wrote:This shouldn't even be a question..

I have the same iMac. Definitely worth it. Then crank up the preload, sample buffers, etc. 8G is marginal when VIs are loaded In 64 bit mode you will still get some disk swaps, and you don't want those.
