Here are some interesting tutorials that explain the essence of "dubstep":
What makes a dubstep drum beat: http://music.tutsplus.com/tutorials/dub ... udio-11974
dubstep song structure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U946C9zjJI
How to make growls: http://music.tutsplus.com/tutorials/cre ... udio-13657
You can google the web and find literally hundreds of tutorials, most of them seem to be about how to make the growl and wobble sound FX that are commonly used, particularly people are obsessed with trying to do what Skrillex and a few others have done with automated synths to get lots of crazy sounds that have that gritty growl to them, and also wobble and screech around to the beat as well. Some tools are designed just to help along some of this stuff. Effectrix, Glitch, Cyclop and others. But some of the sound effects mentioned cannot be done with those easy tools, they require methodical automation and modulation effects, using FM synths, phase modulation synths; combined with bit crushers and distortions, etc..and lots of automation in order to do the effects in time with the beat.
People have been doing dubstep for quite a long time, this is almost on the verge of becoming yesterday's news if you ask me. But as I have been learning about how people make those growls and sound effects it has been quite enlightening about how to use some synths I already had in ways I had not ever thought of to get some wild skrillex-y sounds, and at least for the next few years, those embellishments can add some freshness to a track, even if its not a full out dubstep track.

People are talking about it. This dude on You Tube has created a LOT of great You Tube tutorials on EDM and here is a long one from him on this new synth:kgdrum wrote:Serum is a new V-synth that will also lend itself to EDM & Dubstep.

That guy, SeemlessR, is a good guy to subscribe and follow on You Tube if you want to learn about EDM, I actually ended up buying Harmor, even before its out on OSX quite yet, due to a sale and watching him use Harmor to make awesome sounds.
