8.07 and DV Movies

Post by JSmith1234567 »

Is anyone having trouble opening DV movies in 8.07?

I'm on my third attempt, and am getting spinning beach balls and need to force-quit.

Thanks!

Update…DV movies seem to be broken, but for some bizarre reason unconverted SD movies seem to work just fine AND are actually outputted using Firewire-DV???

I haven't been paying close attention to the movie situation in DP, but I think they dropped the DV format. Now you need to use MP4.

Can someone verify this, please?

I believe you HAVE TO have a DV file to stream the picture to an external device. Maybe that changed, but only Dave can tell.

No…for some bizarre reason now, DV movies crash DP, but a regular mp4 works and plays out of my firewire DV converter (an ADVC-110)???

Who can figure???

Well then they have changed that - but no mention of it in the release notes?

I read it somewhere on a MOTU release.

[edit] went looking on the MOTU site, but did not find it. Latest specs for DP8 are not up to date, but they include a lot of video formats. It seems like I read in this forum in the past few months that MOTU had announced that DP video would be limited to MP4. Apparently I'm the only one who remembers that, so I probably dreamed it or something. I probably should shut up before I confuse the issue any more.[/edit]

I'm running DP 8.07 with DV files and it's working fine. Same as previous versions.

I'm loving DP's new saving of fullscreen movie state. Now, when opening a DP file a fullscreen movie it will 'remember' and still be set to fullscreen. :D

Hi, I am sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere....

Does DP have a function where you can turn off all the other windows except for the video?

A command that turns the other screens black until the keyboard or mouse is touched.

If DP doesn't do it, does anyone know a third party app that does this?

I thought I remembered something like this in DP, but perhaps it was in Pro Tools.

Thanks.

The aforementioned Full Screen mode won't do it for you? A key command will open/close and get you back

The issue is I have 3 other screens (34" and 2x 27") in addition to the big wall mounted monitor that the video is playing on. There is so much visual clutter on the other monitors and extra light filling the room. I would love to be able to focus all of my clients attention completely on the video.

There are probably power switches on the other monitors. Maybe they need to be on a power strip of their own?

Obviously, that would be an easy solution right?

The issue with doing that is that they don't always come back on reliably (in fact almost never), they take forever to turn off and while they are "off" all sorts of menus and messages about "power saving" flash on them. Sometimes when you turn them off individually the computer gets confused and starts moving the "home" screen around to a different monitor. 90% of the time when you turn one of them off individually the computer will ignore it. Once it does that the only way to get them all back on and arranged correctly is to reboot.

A software solution would be the best.
