how to save parameters in custom groups?

I've read the posts in 2012 about this but don't see a solution. Is this still an issue in 8? I'd like to save my custom settings rather than keep having to select them for every session. Whle I'm dreaming it would also be nice to have a group for "insert send". Ok I'll snap out of it! :lol:
