And if, where ?
I suspect DP longtime - recording 32 tracks with a total of 2GB ram
Thank you for hints

Activity Monitor shows swaps measured in GB. It used to also show the number of pages swapped, but not any more.

With 2G of RAM and 10.6 or later, everything will cause swapping. IIRC you needed at least 8G to avoid it completely.

24 ch recording and mixing with Cuemix FX / DP *never ever* caused swapping, 3h in a row...

Now I record 32 ch from the X32Core's FW card ( with DP ), and I'd like to know if its DP
or the X32Core remote software...that is causing swapping

2 GBs of RAM is practically nothing. That's probably what the OS needs to itself, at the bare minimum.

You need much more RAM!
Mac Mini Server i7 2.66 GHs/16 GB RAM / OSX 10.14 / DP 9.52
Tascam DM-24, MOTU Track 16, all Spectrasonics' stuff,
Vienna Instruments SUPER PACKAGE, Waves Mercury, slaved iMac and Mac Minis running VEP 7, etc.

I just don't know of any software that will report the process that caused a memory page swap. That doesn't mean there's not one, but I've used a number of them, and not a one contained that information. Currently I use MenuMeters, which shows you all that's going on in real time up in your menu bar. But it doesn't label the process whose access required swapping out a page in RAM.

I don't think there is an answer to your question. Swapping is done by the OS and is not specific to an application. It just swaps stuff out of RAM onto the disk, and the pages swapped out at any one time might contain data from many apps and OS elements.

Also, note that swapping happens before the RAM is actually all used up, so seeing that you are using less than 2G at any one time, doesn't mean you shouldn't expect swapping.

You can see it in Console - if you want to go there.

Mavericks handles memory differently than other OS and does less swapping than was done before.
