panning
I don't know what the heck is going on here...why would I not be able to pan a stereo audio track? OSX 10.6.8, DP 7.24. I freeze a bunch of MAch 5 tracks to audio and then when I adjust the pan it doesn't do anything.
Thank you for your help.

Re: panning
That's strange...
Are you sure your tracks are stereo?
Have you tried the Trim plug?
Do you really want to pan a stereo signal, loosing info on one side, or do you want to reduce the stereo spread and/or pan the FULL stereo info? For this, you must use something like Trim.

Re: panning
If I understand you right - and I'm not sure I do...
You pan mono tracks to a stereo output (buss).
You don't pan stereo tracks.
This doesn't mean that you can't adjust R/L balance of a stereo track after the fact. You can.
With chamber music, sometimes what sounds nicely balanced to the audience isn't when heard by the two microphones on the stage recording the concert.
The way I do it is to export (Bounce to Disk) the track as two mono tracks. Now you can rebalance by panning each side as well as changing the relative volumes of the two sides. When done, bounce to a stereo track.
For my own recordings, I always give each mic its own mono track. Only when I get lucky does pan hard L, hard R give me exactly what I want.

Re: panning
Any chance your master fader is folding down to mono? You should hear something when you hard pan to one aide or the other.
Check your meters too in case you are unknowingly folded down in your interface.

Re: panning
This clearly isn't a DP problem but I'll post it here anyway...just replaced my old Presonus Firepod with a Presonus FireStudio. I freeze a MachFive piano dead-center that automatically freezes to a stereo audio track...the new FireStudio refuses to pan. Plug in the old Firepod and it does, in fact, pan. The mixer shows hard pan with both interfaces (obviously) but I can only HEAR the pan in the old one. What do you think?
