Re: Codec converter
Toast 11 and DSP-Quatro are easy and good... If you have Wave Burner with Logic 9, that still works.
Although DSP-Q is still 32bit Carbon, 64bit Cocoa is supposed to happen soon. The only issue is that some Cocoa based plugins including a couple from Izotope won't work properly such as Ozone 5.04 (5.03 and 5.05b work fine). Anyway, a lot of people use DSP-Q for mastering and to prepare files for iTunes and CD mastering.
I happen to have all three and use Toast for that. Can't be easier.

Re: Codec converter
I use Codec Toolbox from Sonnox.
It's a two steps process:
First a plugin that you put last in your master chain. It converts in real-time to the format you choose. The plugin shows the nmr infos and warns of overs. That allows you to adjust/remix accordingly while earing the final conversion in real-time with clip-safe auto-compensation.
Second, a stand-alone software, Toolbox Manager, to batch convert and metadata inputs.
Very satisfied with it.
