Probably dumb question - installing DP5 on Lion

Post by Zarathustra1991 »

This is probably a stupid question and more a Mac issue than DP one. We run the now rather aged DP5 at work (Comm. College), and I want to install it on a virtual VMWare Mac running Lion so that I can take stuff home to work on. (So it's a legit copy of the software - I have the original disk and serial.) When I try to install it, the installer begins, announces "authenticating installer," then throws up the installation screen with "introduction" highlighted, then it closes. End of story.

What do I need to do to get it to install? After that, I'm good!

Yep... I think you'd probably be pretty lucky if you could even make that work. DP 7.24 might be a better candidate for that if you don't want to install DP 8.06.

I'm pretty sure DP5 still uses Carbon (?), so you'd actually have to run it in Tiger (10.4x).

Pretty sure I used DP 5.13 on Leopard.

Weird. I answered this when first posted but no longer see my answer.

Can it run on Lion? Yes.

Can it be installed on Lion? No.

DP 5.13 and 6.03 work great in 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8. (I didn't try it on 10.9 but it may work) That's not the issue.

You cannot authorize any version of DP before 7.24 on OS 10.7 or later. The only way to run is to install and authorize on 10.6.8 (you need Rosetta if your CD is before 5.1) and run the 5.x updaters. Now update your OS to 10.7 or 10.8.

If you need to reinstall from backup including Time Machine, DP 5 will not work as the CD authorization cannot be run successfully.

No. That isn't an issue. DP 7.24 is Carbon also.

The problem is that some Cocoa based plugins do not work properly with 32bit Carbon apps in OS 10.8 / 9. Izotope Ozone 5.04 is a good example. It doesn't work in DP 7.24 but does in DP 8 32bit. Ozone 5.03 and 5.05b do work with 32bit Carbon based apps like DP 5-7 and DSP-Quatro.
