DP8 in 32bit mode?

Post by beautypill »

I have recently tried to start DP in 32 bit mode and I find that I'm unable to do it. It keeps loading 64 bit.

This is not that big a deal for me. As an alternative, I just re-downloaded P7.24, which is thankfully still in my MOTU download account. I will use that for the time being.

Anyone else encountered this problem?

Lemmeknow.

cheers,
c

Is it possible you have more than one copy of DP 8 on the drive, and you're setting the wrong one to open in 32 bit mode?

It's easy to open DP 8 in 32bit but sometimes it doesnt like to cooperate. I did find that it helped to reboot my Mac first when that happens. Logic 9 can exhibit the same behavior (I tried it just to see if it had the same issue) - again, reboot first.

I settled on leaving 7.24 installed for those old projects that won't open properly in 64bit due to incompatible plugins. I find it easier to open 8 in 64bit only.

There are some 32bit plugs with the Carbon/Cocoa issue that don't work properly in DP 7.24 in OS 10.8 or 10.9. Those must be opened in 8 32bit to work. I am going through those and all my 32bit projects to bring them up to date as needed.

If you select the DP8 icon, and hit Command+"I", you should get a dialog
box with an option to "Open in 32-bit". Check that box and then DP8 will
always open in 32 bit.

That said, the application "32 Lives" is potentially your best friend.
You can use it to "64-bit-ize" all your old legacy plugs and VI's so they will
run as 64-bit. Then you can go back to using DP8 in 64-bit mode.

Thanks for the responses!

Yeah, it's DP8 is not obeying the 32 bit switch thing. Who knows why?

I will try that 32 bit adaptor plugin. Thanks for that suggestion.

I really appreciate the helpful responses.
