It's coming back to me... Modem and printer cables were wired differently - except when they were not. I think I still have an Apple Talk / Modem / Printer switcher to MIDI somewhere - or else it was given to recycling.

Re: OS 9
Yeah, I don't remember it clearly enough to describe it accurately. What I DO remember was that it was always a relief when I got FreeMIDI set up and working, especially on someone else's machine. Nothing makes you look dumber than trial-&-error during the setup process. Ideally, you wanted to be able to run Performer while printing or accessing the internet, though I usually told my clients not to use that computer for internet access when I wasn't there. Gradually I figured out that the printer and modem ports were just serial ports, but the machine had to know which was which.mikehalloran wrote:It's coming back to me... Re: OS 9
Want to shout out THANK YOU MOTU customer service.
When I tried to install FreeStyle version 2.31 ( Mac OS 8 and Mac OS 9 ) discovered to my chagrin that something's wrong with the CD installer ( badly scratched on the playback side ). It would run and then stall for ever.
Emailed MOTU and without any hesitation they are sending me a replacement CD.
That sure made me happy because i thought for sure i was a dead duck.

Re: OS 9
Good deal.
A tip: I have never met the scratched CD that Brasso couldn't bring back to life. It is a very good plastic polish capable of buffing out some pretty bad scratches.
