Install B4II on a new Mac?

Post by midilance »

I have a friend with a new iMac who wants to install an older version of B4II on it. I have a 2008 8-core that is running B4II quite well using 32 Lives. However, I understand there are issues for installing it on a new machine. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to do it so I can help my buddy out? Thanks.

Maybe install it manually by opening the package with a DMG viewer. You'll find plenty with google.

Hi Dwet,
I don't understand what you are suggesting. I don't know about DMG Viewers. I googled them and it came back with a ton of DWG viewers which, I might guess, is something else again. Could you explain it to a slight tech knowledge guy such as myself?

I installed it on a new Mac Mini within the last six months, so I know it's possible. Unfortunately, I can't remember what was involved. I don't recall there being any major issues. I believe there is an installer available on the Native Instruments website that will work. The last version was 2.0.4. I was able to install and authorize under ML, but I don't know about Mavericks.

The 2.04 installer for B4 II is an upgrade installer only. Yes, it will install it, but it doesn't
install the tone wheels file, so when you launch B4 II, you get a dialog box asking where the
tonewheels file is...so you're SOL. You have to have the original installation of B4II already on
your drive.

I installed B4II on my 2009 Macbook and my 2010 MacPro when they were both running
Snow Leopard. Then when I upgraded to ML on both machines the installations "remained".
But when my Macbook's hard drive went bad, I had to replace it, and unfortunately my
B4II installation didn't survive the clone, so I tried to install B4II again from the original
installer disk, only to get the message that the install could not be performed (because the
installer doesn't work in Mountain Lion.)

Yes, maybe there is a way to use the DMG-whatever viewer to "pry open" the installer package and successfully install B4II. I'm not familiar with that method and so can't comment.

Thanks for the clarification, David. I don't recall having any of those issues. I do believe I had to go back to the original install disks (which would have been Komplete 3 or Komplete 5 disks in my case). I seem to recall I had to use the "General Installer Patch for Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6..." which can be downloaded for FREE from this link:

http://www.nativeinstruments.de/index.p ... reeupdates

See this Knowledge Base article for more info about the patch (although I don't see B4 II on the list):

http://www.native-instruments.com/en/su ... /show/151/

Definitely never had the Tonewheel missing problem, but maybe this article might help with that:

http://www.native-instruments.com/en/su ... e/show/91/

All I know is that within the last 6 months I was able to install B4II, Pro53, and Elektrik Piano on the lastest version of Mountain Lion, and was running them with JBridgeM.

Best,
Babz
