NAMM Dinner 2014!

Post by jwfatgruv »

I just wanted to let everyone know about the upcoming MOTU Users NAMM Dinner!

You do not have to be a NAMM attendee to go to the dinner, you can bring a friend, date, or anyone you would like.

This year it is Friday Jan. 24, 2014, 6:30p, at The El Torito Restaurant (where else?) 2020 E. Ball Rd., Anaheim, CA 92806. We have a private room at El Torito from 6:30p until closing, so don't worry about being "on Time".

For those attending the NAMM show, we meet at the MOTU booth around 5:45p friday afternoon so that anyone who needs a ride to the dinner can get one. Anyone who doesn't know who I am can just walk up to the handsome guy in a suit standing around the MOTU booth and say "Hi Jim!" That will probably be Jim Cooper, and he can point you towards me.

This will be our 17th!!! annual dinner (we started when computers had tubes!), and each year they get bigger and better! The swag this year will of course be very cool and maybe even functional (not sure yet). There are even rumors of manufacturer gift swag! I said rumors...

This is our chance to show & tell the hard working MOTU guys & gals how much we appreciate all their hard work over the past year.

As usual, this is a "no host" affair. What this means: we each pay our own way, plus a little extra to cover our honored guests, the MOTU guys.  As it turns out, their Cambridge dollars are no good out here on the left coast. Often we get a guest appearance from some plugin developers as well.

Here's the W,W,W,W,W:

Who: You + the uber-cool MOTU guys
What: Dinner, Cocktails, Ballroom Dancing!
When: Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 6:30pm
Where: El Torito Restaurant, 2020 East Ball Road, Anaheim, CA 92806 (714) 956.4880
Why: Why? Because we like you!

Please respond to this message privately (or not) as an RSVP. It's always good to get a head count for the restaurant.

Hope to see you there!

I may have an out of town gig NAMM weekend. If not, I'll definitely be
there. Had a great time at the 2013 NAMM dinner, wouldn't want to miss
this.

If I can get a badge I'll be there. NAMM has become much more strict in granting media credentials, so we'll see..(I work in television news) Been a few years. Always a great time :D

Looks like it's a no go for me. No passes to be had. Bummer, was really hoping to make it this year. I've been getting into Eurorack modulars quite a bit lately and several manufacturers will be there. :( Oh well. Maybe next year.

Today's the official last day to renew, join or change badge information without a penalty for badges. Regular membership includes 4 passes. After midnight, badges or changes to existing badges are $25.

If you qualify, you can join at the show - last time I did that, it cost me $200 (2008?) but I only got my own badge. My last show was 2009.

I haven't renewed in years even though I do qualify. One of the wholesalers I sell for offered me a pass this year. Some of the larger ones can get you in up till the day of the show.

Since 2008 or so, security is tight. ID checks are frequent, especially in the mornings and, if your badge doesn't match your name, it is confiscated and you are asked to leave. The old days of sharing badges are gone.

I received the following this morning:

Less Than 24 Hours to Get Your FREE NAMM Show Badges!

After the FREE badge registration deadline on Thursday, January 2, at 11:59 p.m. PST, all 2014 NAMM Show badges––or any changes made to existing badges––will cost $25 each.
https://www.namm.org/thenammshow/2014/badges

So why not save yourself time, money and/or having to wait in line and order your badges now? Remember, you must first log in to the NAMM website to register.

Not a NAMM Member? Or has your Membership expired? Join or renew now to get your free show badges before the January 2 deadline and take advantage of all the great benefits NAMM has to offer.

When everyone is drunk. Er...I mean, um, whenever the kitchen closes, I think.

Btw, add "JoelMusic" (Joel Plimmer) to the list of people coming. Joel just called and said
he's flying in tomorrow and wants to go to the dinner on Friday.

I'm definitely going.

I just left NAMM and saw this thread. Dang. Would've been cool to talk shop with MOTU peoples.

Have fun, guys.
