DP 8 - Unknown error loading the MIDI system

Post by johnnyjonesjr »

I upgraded from DP 5 to DP 8 on a new macbook pro and when I launch the software, it freezes and then gives me an error message that says "Unknown error loading the MIDI system" I've updated the driver for my Traveler, my Traveler is plug in via a Firewire 400, 6 pin to 800, 9 pin cable to a Firewire/Thunderbolt Adapter plugged into my macbook pro with Retina Display. Software won't launch. What's going on?

The very first thing to do is repair permissions. It might also help to zap the PRAM on restart. We can take it from there. Is the Traveler showing up in Audio/MIDI Setup?

Also try opening DP with the Traveller not connected, MIDI only.

OK, I'm starting up without the traveler connected and the traveler is showing the MIDI set up.

Because of my desperation, this has become a forum contest. I'm currently registered and posted my same issue to this forum as will as Reaper, MacOSXAudio, and Sweetwater. Just for fun, I wonder which forum will actually solve my issue. Ooh, I have a notification on MacOSXAudio...let's see what happens:-)

Try an uninstall/reinstall of DP. Can you launch other MIDI applications? Can you launch GarageBand?

Garage band is asking me to buy Waves 5.9 Enabler a and I've uninstalled and reinstalled DP8 several times, launching with and without my traveler plugged in.

I'd start by disabling your Waves plugs and seeing if you can get DP to launch then.

Wave Plugins deleted. DP still won't launch.

I had this issue, but it was due to a bad MIDI driver from RME (which is a completely different piece of hardware). When I installed a different driver, (I think I even installed an older one), it fixed that particular issue.

Now you might be entering into the stage of needing to delete some preferences that might have been corrupted. But even still, this is no guarantee. If it is possible that some other MIDI driver was installed (that you aren't using), you could try removing that.

Been there. Not fun.
