Copying Effects?

Post by Todzilla »

I've looked in the manual and searched the web, but couldn't find this:

How do you take an insert effect and copy it and its settings to paste into another track's insert?

I know I can save an effect's settings, re-create that effect in another track and load the saved settings, but I'm hoping there's a quick key combo for copy/paste to do all this quickly.

Any info is most appreciated.

Not sure how to copy/paste, but I just Option-drag from one track to another.

^ this, or if you have both plugins open you can click 'cmd C' to copy the settings and 'cmd V' to paste the settings to the other plugin.

I always use Command+Option drag. Maybe the Command key was unnecessary all these years? I'll try both later.

Page 785 covers copying of the plugin parameters, and page 786 shows copying of the plugins themselves, along with other similar operations for plugins in the mixer.

Option dragging does not work for me– as soon as you option-click on the plug-in name it just bypasses the effect. I have to use Command+Option drag in order to copy>paste between insert slots. I'm in V7.24.

Phil, you have to press the option key after you press the mouse or pad button.
(Odd that Option Command doesn't work at all on my laptop, but Option Control does.)

Interesting. I just tried it, and that's not working for me. If I hold down the mouse button first, it calls up the list of plug-ins. If I only press the mouse button once and let off, then hit option as soon as I try to click and drag it just toggles the plug on and off. The only way I've found that works is holding down both Command and Option and while holding those down, click and drag from one slot to the other. Weird...

Copy-paste between Motu DP plug windows has been broken in previous release.
AFAIK, it's been fixed in last release.

Okay, I just noticed that if I use Command-Option, the cursor turns into a hand icon. However, if I just move the cursor to the left side of the plug-in slot, it turns into a hand icon automatically, and all I have to use at that point is Option-Drag. Does that makes sense?

Eureka! I never knew about hovering over the left side of an insert in all these many years of using DP.
