Anyone using an Avid Omni HD with DP?

Post by Tripi »

I've pretty much had it with my Apogee Ensemble, so my project this week is to find a replacement. The Omni with native card looks like the forerunner. I work in DP8, but I would like to be able to use PT also. I'm sure the Omni works great with PT, but I'm really interested in how it works in core audio mode with DP. Any insights are very welcome!

thanks!

Maybe I should just ask if anyone is using one of the new Avid HD interfaces with DP?

I have no additional information....I'm just jumping on your thread for info. I came to motunation tonight to ask the very same question. I need to record a orchestral score at a studio that has the new Avid HD interfaces. I'd rather use DP 7.24 than PT 10.... That's currently loaded on their system. So anyone know if 7.24 will work with the new interfaces?

I have used DP since version one. I grudgingly use PT when I have to. I have never tried to use DP with Avid hardware. From looking at the manual, it looks like you MIGHT be able to run the Avid hardware even with the MOTU audio system. Is that true? If so, can I then continue mixing the file " back at home using DPnas usual? I really just want to track with a familiar program (DP) with the Avid hardware, and then take the files back to mix as usual. Does anyone know if any of this is possible?

Thanks,

Kirt Shearer

I think you and I have a very similar use for the Omni in mind. I definitely know it is supposed to run core audio, but as far as I can tell, you have to have the Native card to do this (which also supports PT HD). It's always nice to get some feedback from someone else using the hardware before diving in and trying it yourself. I'm thinking about posting the same question in the Avid forum, since no one here seems to be going this route.

I may have a chance to test this setup next week, as I have access to the hardware. I'll post back here with my findings......
