What is the best and most compact unit to control transport on dp7 via MIDI or USB or MADI?

I don't follow. How do you plug it in the computer? There's an app for that?

there's a couple of apps, the easiest is dp control, it's also free... it connects wirelessly thru a wireless router or modem.

the other is called ac-7, i think, haven't tried that yet

If all you want to control is transport, you might look at the sexy MC Transport:

It works with Ethernet, not one of the inputs you mentioned, but it is quite an elegant solution.
DP9. 12 Core Mac Pro, Big Park 10.10.4, 24GB RAM. RME HDSPe MADI to SSL Alphalink to SSL Matrix. UAD Quad. Outboard stuff collecting dust. A Shure SM57 (which will outlast the rest of it, except possibly the SM58).
