What is the best and most compact unit to control transport on dp7 via MIDI or USB or MADI?

I don't follow. How do you plug it in the computer? There's an app for that?

there's a couple of apps, the easiest is dp control, it's also free... it connects wirelessly thru a wireless router or modem.

the other is called ac-7, i think, haven't tried that yet

If all you want to control is transport, you might look at the sexy MC Transport:

It works with Ethernet, not one of the inputs you mentioned, but it is quite an elegant solution.
DP8.01 on 12 Core Mac Pro, Puma Concolor 10.8.3, 24GB RAM / VE Pro connection to VI slave (Mac Pro 2.8 GHz. 8-core 32GB RAM). RME MADI to SSL Alphalink to SSL Matrix. UAD Quad. Outboard stuff collecting dust. A Shure SM57 (which will outlast the rest of it).
