Any brave (or foolish) souls try DP with the OS X Lion Beta?

Absolutely! I haven't even gone to Lion yet, but I might go straight to Mountain Lion Beta. I can't get enough of my iPad, and want my 12-core workstation to grow up to be just like it. I want to be able to Tweet my sorry-ass life story all day everyday, directly from DP. I can't wait for everything to be on the "cloud" so I won't have to worry about being responsible for ownership of the content I create..

I'm in the middle of a very important project with serious deadlines, so now is the perfect time to make the move.

Yes, cynical is not the word for it. :shake:

Our QA staff downloaded the Mountain Lion beta last week to see whether any of our Java or Qt software is going to have issues.

As DP -- to my knowledge -- is written primarily in Objective-C, it is probably less likely to encounter simple compatibility and run-time issues, but there may be changes to how Core Audio works?

Mountain Lion? Already? Aha - this means that Mountain Lion will be the
version that Lion was supposed to be - just like Snow Leopard was Leopard
with the bugs worked out.

Not that I'll be moving off of SL - too many legacy plugs and apps that
I'd have to re-purchase in a move to Lion (whatever version).

I'm still using SnowLeo on my main machine, but have successfully used Lion on a spare.

Moved to Lion this weekend and so far have only lost a couple of very old Waldorf plugs. Everything works well, including most apps that aren't supposed to be working (Filemaker 9, for instance.)

As for plug-ins, any plugs not 64bit are going to have to go bye-bye soon anyway. Once my DP is 64bit I ain't hauling no sputtering legacy Diesel engines along for the ride...

:D :D :D

Thanks for the warning re: Waldorf plugs not working on Lion. Reason enough for me to stay on Snow Leopard, as Waldorf Attack is one of my most-used plugs. Maybe they'll do an update soon, as they did for PPG Wave.

Snow Leopard rolled down the feature creep to 1, greatest update ever. From what I'm hearing, Mountain Lion isn't rolling down the feature creep, so I'm not too excited.

Anybody realize that a lot of these cat names are actually the same species? Pretty sure Puma, Mountain Lion, and Snow Leopard are all the same damn cat!

As long as they don't release OSX Liger... the bloated 6000+ new feature OS that will require 8Gigs of space just to run! Plus, Liger's are just friggin' scary!

I'm looking forward to iOS and OSX becoming one system.

People keep fearing that the Mac Pro is going to turn into an iPad. What they fail to acknowledge is that this transfer is going in the other direction as well...the iPad is becoming more like the Mac Pro. It will soon have a quad-core processor, and you can already download DAW's for it.

Add cloud-computing to the equation...imagine having a 24-Core workstation in North Carolina, loaded with UAD-2 cards, every DAW imaginable, and every plugin imaginable, all at your fingertips 3000 miles away in California. You pay a monthly fee to rent out the CPU power, and control it all from a giant thin touchscreen in your studio. All this, without having to worry about fan-noise, a huge electric bill, or backing up. That's the future folks. Take it or leave it :)

So many problems with this scenario (although it would be cool if possible.)
