DP8.02 is available for Mac and Windows. DP 8.02 is also available as a demo version.
Enjoy!
Dave
Kudos on the demo version. That's something we've sorely needed for a long time -- really, since the beginning. Now we don't have to say "trust me; you'll like it."
You guys have obviously been hard at work, and you have my gratitude.

- The following feature has been restored: if tracks are selected when switching to the Mixing Board or QuickScribe windows, only those tracks are shown.
I know others like this, and why, but I can't stand it! UGH! I don't understand why it wasn't made a preference so we could pick which way we wanted it to work.

This update shows a lot of work. Outstanding.. Thanks MOTU!

Anyway, congratulations on the release, MOTU.
I agree on all counts. Nice to see the new release, but really wish the mixing board thing was a preference. I don't know how many times I've had to reconfigure my whole mixer layout because I happened to have a track selected when I switched to the mixer, which is so easy to do if you've just performed an edit or copy etc. It's something you have to think about that you shouldn't have to think about.
The workaround of course is to just pop out the mixer and leave it in the background, but that cancels out some of the consolidated windows functionality.
Is it a DP8 bug or is it only my computers that using the scrubbing tool always sounds like clicks and pops when starting to move the scrubber. I use that tool to find clicks and pops but it's useless if it always does a click at the start of the scrub. Was this addressed in 8.0.2? Any solution to this?
Thanks,
J

- If a movie is fullscreen, switching chunks now preserves fullscreen viewing.
- Improved performance when the Movie Track is visible. Improved video scrubbing.
...
- Addressed an issue where abutting MIDI notes might not play back properly.
- Autosave now creates a sub-folder in the project folder and saves incremental versions there.
...
- Merging chunks in a song now takes the tempo mode from the song itself.
...
THANK YOU MOTU! These seemingly little things are why I stay in DP all these years, because sometimes, they're NOT little things. Am hoping that it's even more efficient when a project gets huge VI-wise.

You can turn off the welcome screen in the preferences and have it go back to opening the last file opened, etc...if you choose.
Thanks - yes eventually worked that one out but thanks for responding. I will probably get used to it!

Does anyone know if DP has fixed the ability to hit command C, copying any plug ins settings directly from it’s open window, and then hit command V to paste plug in settings back in to the same plug in at a later time, (in the event one wants to lets say copy the chorus 1 EQ to chorus 2...etc)
Good news for you - copy paste plugins is working!
Still testing VE Pro but everything else feels snapp.... goood Thank you MOTU!

Guys... guys... it IS a preference! In fact there are several preferences that affect it. Look under the "Consolidated Window" tab, uncheck "Mixing Window scrolls to current selection". Kind of a weird title, I know, but read the description, and that's what it does, it turns off the whole re-arranging the mixing window thing. It also only works under very specific conditions, too. The mixer has to be in the CW, it has to only use the CW universal "Track Selector" window, which can be controlled under the "Edit Windows" preference tab. I did a whole bunch of tests and posts about it yesterday on one of the previous threads.

Thanks for the info, Prime. Still confused though- my 'Mixing Window scrolls to current selection' IS (and had been) unchecked, and I have the Edit Windows preference set to 'Opens track selector window for editors inside the Consolidated window', yet the mixer still kicks out all the other tracks but the selected one(s) when opened in CW. Quite possibly I'm missing something here....
Please send a link to your other thread with posts and tests! Thanks....
Scroll mixer to selection will add the selected track to the mixer, or scroll to it if the track is not currently visible. This is especially useful if you have the mixer in a sidebar window.
The behavior that was in DP7 and has been restored in 8.02 is that when the mixer (or Quickscribe window) is opened, it will open to display the currently selected tracks.
We got a small but steady stream of questions and complaints about this behavior. If you don't know how it's working, it can be confusing if you have a single track selected and you switch to the mixer to see only that track displayed. So we changed the behavior in DP8 per customer request.
But many of you (myself included) actually liked the old behavior, so it did become a problem for those of us who do want it to work the old way. We got a lot more complaints about the new behavior in DP8 than we did about the old DP7 mechanism. So we put it back the way it used to work.
There is something to be said for having both options. We didn't want to hold up the 8.02 release to mess around with a new set of window preferences, but it is possible you may see something along these lines in a future update.
Thanks Magic Dave! I know you guys are trying, and you pretty much nailed it with this release. So far, I'm not hearing any complaints of new bugs, and it sounds like a lot of the old biggies are gone (video stuff... which I don't personally use). Great welcome screen. I know that there's been a design conflict over this. It used to be that only consumer programs had welcome screens, and professional programs had a "do it yourself" attitude, so I think there's been some backlash on welcome screens feeling amaturish. But you're seeing it on more and more pro apps, and in DP8.02s case, I think it's really full-featured, and doesn't impede any other kind of usage at all, so I can't really think of a good case against it.
As for the mixing board selection system, I hate to say it, but I think it might be time on the next version to evaluate changing out the whole consolidated window system. It was one of the first of its kind back when it was first introduced (wasn't that 4.5?), and incredibly nice, but window docking systems have become fairly common place, and allow for a lot more flexibility. I guess the biggest setback with the CW system is that it's too much "it's own thing". Windows take on new personality and operate differently inside the CW then out, and I feel like it becomes kind of complex and confusing trying to guess how the interface will react in different setups. The fact that there are two entirely different (but similar looking) "Track Selector" entities is one of those complexities caused by having the CW being too dominant. I believe stepping back to a simpler window docking system might allow for a lot more interface predictability. Instead of having windows function differently in and out of the CW, they could be docked with no actual functional change at all. Functional UI changes could be set in preferences outside of their association with being in the CW.
Currently, the track selector works one way if the mixing board is in the CW, and another if it's on it's own, and I believe it even works differently depending upon whether it's actively showing in the CW or not. In my opinion, I don't believe a window should change how it's handled whether it's hidden or not, or whether it's docked with other windows. It's handling, if flexible, would be better designated by the user in a universal preference.
I, personally, because of my setup, only use the CW for a few windows, and keep others (like the tracklist and mixer) out of the CW. And I keep them in other Spaces. Unfortunately, this kills some of the functionality gained by using the CW. I'd like to be able to use that power whether in the CW or not.
That said, I want to back off and say that I don't in any way blame MOTU for what they've done so far, or want to sound like I'm calling out shortcomings. Up until, it's been great, just that come next iteration, I think it might be time for some updates incorporating some good UI development that's been honed since the CW system was presented.

Yes, MOTU is listening!

Okay, thanks for listening and for explaining, David. Much appreciated. I'm a little less annoyed now. Have a wonderful month of MAY!
