How good is the factory Library of sounds in BPM?

Post by Citizen »

Would it be worth getting BPM just for the Library itself? A local retailer has BPM for $100 off, so I was considering it.

I already have Maschine, so I really probably wouldn't get too much use out of the BPM software itself, though.

Keen to hear people's thoughts on this.

Also, is the 1.5 upgrade free?

BPM Library = Dope. Many of the compatible soundpacks are great too. Upgrade from v1 to 1.5 is not free. It cost $79.00 plus shipping.

Yeah, I've heard only good things about the library - hence my interest.

What's the variety like? Is there a bias toward certain sounds or genres?

I make about half and half electronic stuff, and half hip hop stuff. So a bunch of varied, clean, loud and solid stuff for electronic would be good, and a bunch of gritty, dusty, warm vinyl hits for my hip hop would be ace.

I don't really need another 1000 808 kicks, though, you know!

Im always on the hunt for good character filled busted ass drums for my hop hop. What's the spread like in BPm? And is it worth getting the update?

It depends on your needs. 1.5 adds Beat Box Anthology and makes kits from that. The new kits are more versatile for different genres than hip hop and use the new pack along with the drum synth for the kits. It also has per bank aux effects that are used for the kits to add verb and delay etc. so overall the kits are put together a bit better. The only other real advantage to 1.5 is the support for global MIDI control. Also consider you will be stuck with the 1.05 version when the dev said there is another update coming soon. You can check eBay too and see if you can get a decent price on 1.5

in case you don't know this already, the BPM sounds are in UVI soundbank format - which means you don't get folders full of wav/aif files that you can easily drop into other apps.

you need to use BPM or the free UVI player to access the sounds from within the app. the sounds and patterns are easy enough to drag and drop from BPM into your DAW, or export as aif files. i.e. you can't just open Maschine and then go auditioning samples from the BPM library.

however BPM has loads of great sounds and if you do more electronic stuff as opposed to hip hop i would say go for the 1.5 version.

you'll need an ilok too btw.

It's a great library and I use the sounds directly in Maschine all the time.

I'm more into the original library than the updated one for 1.5 personally.

Hey guys - thanks for the tips.

I ended up getting BPM, just for the quality drum library. And yes, it is really, really good.

I know it seems a little nuts just buying the software for the library, but I did the math, and its actually a much better deal than spending the same amount on Sample or Drum packs from a retailer. 8)

Just one thing: the package boasts 'Over 10, 000 samples/Over 15GB'

I just went through, and dragged EVERY sample out of BPM into folders. (yes, I am nuts) This is what I got:

• The drum hits alone, and 'One Shots' (Bass, Flute, guitar etc)
= 3,622 items/1.83GB

• Loops (drums and instruments) = 1,189 items/5.33GB

TOTAL SAMPLES: 4,811 / 7.16GB

:?:

So what makes up the remainder of the 10,000/15GB of Samples? Is it just instrument and the 'X-Sample' content? (is there a way of converting this to .WAV, or AIFF format?)

Oh, btw - the 1.5 update came free with it, with Beat Box Anthology.

machine beats - and the way that it is organised in BPM is neat, so I might not extract the content until I have a bit of time to kill.

My tally didn't include the BBA content. I already have a lot of drum

But the 10,000 samples is just the original BPM content, right?

I would imagine the rest is the x-sample content.

Thanks Joe - thats what I figured. Cool!

Now to import these babies into Maschine!

(not sure what happened to my previous post - looks like bits and pieces of it got lost some how - I come off like a babbling baboon!)
