Wow, why not much excitement on this product? The demos sound pretty fantastic, and I like the simplicity.

Yikes!
Track 2 (Funky Board) is... George Duke.
Dang.

Why, oh why do I still choose to use hardware ROMplers? :?

Downloading track 3...

To me, it's just more proof that MOTU's got a sufficiently large and diverse enough library already to at least be able to offer cut-down versions of MSI, Ethno, EK and MachV in DP, along with bread-and-butter offerings.
If MOTU had done this already, I'd have sold my hardware MIDI modules.

Call me naive (which I am, certainly), but I'm still holding out hope that said offerings or a comprehensive VI suite will arrive shortly.
I've just about had it (finally) with editing through tiny LCD screens - I've done my time (think WSSR etc) and no longer am inspired in any way by these beasts.
The cabling, routing of audio and MIDI, lack of sufficient outputs to mix sensibly, power consumption, extreme "uneditability" and blandness of these things have conspired to push me over the edge.
I really have had it.

OTOH, this EK VI from MOTU only serves to rub salt in my "I just know MOTU can and will deliver this at some point" wound, and convince me to hang out that bit longer in anticipation thereof.
Thank you Nikki for reminding us of this little gem. :D

Hmmm. I dunno - I'm definitely all for moving to software instruments and retiring the hardware. But I've still got some hardware that makes noises I like that I can't find good software equivalents. Specifically, I've got a Korg DW 8000 with some timbres I just love and a Juno-106 that is easier to use than just about anything else (SLIDERS!). I keep looking for replacements though.

As to EK - I could definitely go for some more authentic rhodes sounds - but the rest of the collection seems to model instruments that strike me as dated sounding - I likely wouldn't use the real ones if I had them. Perfect emulations of cheezy instruments are still cheezy I think.

Agreed on all fronts, Geekster.

I probably should have mentioned that the ability to load, tweak and save projects in a round-robin fashion is important to me.
Guess I'm just tired of reconfiguring projects, and I'm faced with the task of either doing this again now for the "new" working method I came up with of mixing hardware MIDI live (that's why I sold my big mixer), or taking that next step and moving entirely over to VIs.

My rig doesn't sound special in any way (or even good, IMHO), apart from my VL-70m and drum module.
At the very least, I'd hang on to the VL.
The hassle for me with this setup is mainly that archiving would have to involve rendering all MIDI as audio, otherwise hardware changes over time would mean impossible-to-replicate mix elements, and it was that rendering that I was hoping to avoid through the use of all those MOTU simultaneous analog ins.
I s'pose if my rig did sound great, I'd not be concerned as it'd be no burden to hang onto and continue to use.

The all-MOTU solution might be ideal for me given the fact that projects would (theoretically at least) always load as they sounded when saved.
3rd party hassles wouldn't be an issue, 'cause there wouldn't be any such party.

I agree that EK is an authentic-sounding cheese machine, but I've always wanted to explore the '70s funky/fusioney thing, so it could prove to be inspirational.
No matter - my point was simply that MOTU appears to have the resources and the smarts to put together a ripper of an all-in-one DAW.
I'm talking guitar amp sims, denoising, match-EQing, VIs... everything one would usually need.
IMHO, DP need only add a bunch of VIs and FX and it could validly claim the DAW high ground; this is what I've been hoping for for some years now, and after looking at that iLogical manual, I'm convinced there's not that much work to do.
All the functional elements of DP are in place, evolving and working well.
Adding utility plugs, FX and VIs should be relative no-brainers for these guys (and gals), IMHO.

Lots of assumptions and opinions here; I'm sorry about that Geekster.
Just thought I'd share my confusion with you.
Bottom line is I'm burned out and would settle for anything simple and convenient to operate, even if it meant compromising MIDI instrument quality somewhat.
Heck, a compromised VI palette would likely trounce my MIDI rig anyway.

Thanks for reading my previous post man, and sorry for the vent/dump. :D

Yes, I've concluded that the only sane thing to do is keep both the MIDI and render it as audio. Leaves options open while still retaining that sound I liked in the first place.

I wouldn't expect MOTU to supply all the pieces. I think its too big of a job for one company. Anyhow, there's great stuff available by other parties. AmpliTube is really really good for guitar for instance.

But all the stuff is definitely available now to do monster cool recordings, you just have to pick your pieces and go.

Heck, for the bux - one of my best buys was the Korg Digital Legacy Collection (software M1 and WaveStation). Less than $200 and a LOT of useful sounds there.

Yes, I've been watching the progress of KLC and KLCD over the years.
Stable from version 1.0 was impressive IMHO, Geekster.

You're right of course that all components are available now, but I don't yet trust 3rd party stuff to play nice with DP, at least not in the long term, hence my preference for an all-MOTU setup if possible.
Non-standardised preset handling and storage puts me off mixing (!) manufacturers too.
Heck if there weren't 200 odd unfinished songs I wouldn't be thinking this way so much, but as I've said, I'm so very tired of reconfiguring that I'll gladly take a quality hit for the convenience of the all-in-one solution.

I'm not sure it's too much to ask of MOTU.
Given that it's already given us MWEQ, pitch-correction, all those good stand-alone/cross-platform VIs and with the LA2A sim on its way, I don't think a match EQ, guitar amp and cab sims and the like are beyond it.
Given that the sims can be convolution based, their design and implementation need not be a huge task.
MOTU wouldn't have to provide the best of everything either - just its usual brand of HQ for the buck will do just fine, IMHO.

At any rate, I naively stand to attention, my gaze firmly fixed on MOTU's new-fangled website communication thingy for a clue or hint of what's to come like, well, a monkey who's gaze is firmly fixed on MOTU's new-fangled website communication thingy for a clue or hint of what's to come. :D

I would guess you just drag the sounds over to your hard drive, same as MachFive. Check the manual.

In the manual, you copy the files over to a hard drive, then install the app and it's supposed to find the samples... but it's not searching on my computer (Mac Pro quad core, Leopard)....

please somone help!
