Loading other (external) libraries/sounds into Ethno 2?

Post by joelfriedman »

Hi All,

I so wanted the new tunings that come with Ethno 2 (e.g. 1/4 tone tunings) as I wanted to experiment with tuning different instruments in all sorts of cool ways (e.g. piano, harps, marimba etc.) for a film score I'm working on. The only problems?
1. Most of the instruments I would like to use the new tunings on are not part of the Ethno UFS libraries.
2. MachFive either comes with, or allows me to use/import the instruments I want. M5 also allows me to add FX to the sound. Of course, M5 doesn't allow for the tunings!

I'm stuck between and betwixt the 2 programs!

Is there any way to import additional sounds into Ethno? Sure, I can always alter the sounds via plugins within DP (my DAW host), but it's the idea that only Ethno has the tunings I want to use on sounds, while M5 has the ability to import the sounds that is the catch. Do I have to wait until M5 v. 3???

ARGH....

No, there doesn't appear to be a way to load anything other than the Ethno v2 sound library in the Ethno v2 plug-in/application.

No one but the MOTU devs know for sure, but I'm guessing that you're on the right track.
"I don't see any method at all, sir."

Thanks,

Much to my surprise I actually got a response from MOTU's tech support. You are correct sir:

"No, you can not export external sounds into Ethno 2.

I agree that it would be a good addition to MachFive 2 to support custom tuning maps. This suggestion has been forwarded to the design team for possible inclusion in a future update."

I say surprise because the last time I posted something with them it took almost a year to get a response!

I'm glad they're looking into this, but I've got to think what I'm asking for is not that esoteric or hard to do. Why can't you import into Ethno, why can't you use alternate tunings in M5? So WHERE is that v. 3? :-)

Best,

Joel
