According to MOTU Ethno is not Snow Compatible yet. I guess I can still use it in M5 instead?

What do you think?

You could also give it a spin in UVI Workstation.

"Compatibility with Snow Leopard is forthcoming for Ethno Instrument"

Does anyone know when "forthcoming" might be?
Have just started a very Ethno intensive project and it turns out to be one of the two, out of 600+ AUs that SL breaks in Logic 9.

Thanks,

Simon.

Maybe you should wait after your big project to update to Snow

Ooops, too late....but not a real biggy I have other ethnic options.

Is it possible to access the Ethno sounds from UVI workstation though?

Thanks

Simon.

Yes, that's why I suggested it. I don't have any first-hand knowledge of whether UVI WS works in Snow Leopard or not, but it's a free plug-in so there's no reason not to give it a try.

thanks carrythebanner,

I downloaded it and it seems it does work as an AU in SL but I'm wondering what the process is?
I have Ethno installed with all its data on an external drive. What would UVI WS be "looking for" in terms
of files?

Makes aliases to the Ethno.dat and Ethno.ufs files and place those alises in /Library/Application Support/UVISoundBanks.

Is this working for you now? I just upgraded to SL myself and was going to try the UVI workstation.

I'm in Snow Leopard and DP7.
I've started using the UVI for Ethno.

I actually prefer it to the old Ethno interface.
I don't miss all of the cute graphics etc.
I'm finding it easier to audition sounds and put combos together.

I look forward to MOTU's update to Ethno but I'm happy to be able to use the sounds now.

I'm still waiting for the Ethno fix, but I can tell you that MF2 and UVI work in SL, so it is possible to access Ethno's library.

I dont know what I am doing wrong. But I do get "could not mount the volume "/Library/Application Support/UVISoundBank/Ethno etc...

If I have either 2 ethno files (.ufs and .dat) in the UVI Soundbank folder (or aliases of them). I get 2 error messages on UVI startup. The error message states the correct paths to both ethno files and "could not mount the volume". If those aliases (or files) are removed then UVI has no error on startup. This error message occurs only on standalone version of UVI workstation. In Digital Performer there is no message when I open the instrument but also no Ethno sounds. I get the same behavior with AU instance in Plogue Bidule.

Computer MacBook Pro 4.1, OS 10.6.2
UVI version 1.1.1
DigitalPerformer 7.01

Do you have the latest iLok drivers installed and your iLok connected?

Yes indeed I do. I have 4 licences on that iLok: MSI, Ethno, Melodyne Studio+Editor.
MSI and Melodyne load fine and iLok works. Ethno licence is active too.

PS. I suddenly got enlightened (maybe). After installing fresh 10.6, I did NOT install ethno, only copied soundbanks from server. I knew that ethno standalone and plugin do not work in SL anyway. Probably I do need to run the installer and deactivate AU/MAS plugins later to get soundbanks working in UVI WS. I let you know if it helped.
