tempted to buy ethno any news, gossip about an update soon?

Post by jgest »

My luck is usually such that once I buy something, the universe times a software upgrade with the just the right time duration so I am forced to pay for the update....

I am really feeling a place for ethno in my music and wanted to know if there is any "buzz" about a future upgrade, or such?

How cpu intensive is ethno?
Macbook pro, 3 gigs of ram, osx 10.62, Dp 5.13, Live 8.1.2, Reason 4, Tc powercore Virus, Albino 3.02, proper ergonomic sitting posture, plenty of coffee (french press only with a pinch of cardamon added)
My dp inspired music.....

On my core duo it doesn't seem bad at all. System is a core duo 6300 with 2 gig ram.

I did this little thing tonight testing Ethno out and had 3 instances running all with a reverb setting and had less than 25% usage. This is all ethno. Two violins(one exported to wav then imported back in), one PAD, and a Koto.

Hey Josh, that stuff you've been working on this year strikes me as being perfectly suited to Ethno.
You'll surely use some of the percussion, no?
Then there's the ability to quickly add quality ethnic melodies etc.
From what I've heard, I reckon you'll love it.

That reminds me: What did you use for the congas on the stuff you sent me?
They sound cool - not boomy or muddy at all, and perfect for the monkey, methinks. :?

Mac 2012 12C Cheese Grater, OSX 10.13.6
MOTU DP8.07, MachFive 3.2.1, MIDI Express XT, 24I/O
Novation, Yamaha & Roland Synths, Guitar & Bass, Kemper Rack

Pretend I've placed your favourite quote here

all stock reason sounds, no refills or anything. The trick is i automate envilope modulations ever so slightly to "detune/retune" the percussion hits which makes them a little less "stale" and loops sounding.

But do you think there will an ethno update anytime soon?

There is one update out now that I installed the other day. Didn't take long to download and fixed as issue I was having with the mod wheel crackling, But that is more of a patch I guess. You are meaning paid for updates I take it. Like moving from EI 1 to EI 2? no clue on that one.

Hey, it's only an opinion, but...

If it's not yet UB, which I suspect it isn't, I'd imagine it'd be hot on the heals of MachFive II.
If it's already UB, I'd expect a major update in no less than 6-9 months, with incremental fixes the only realistic prospects in the near future.

It was UB from the get-go ('cept the MAS version, the UB MAS version came a month or two later).

nope. Haven't seen anything that might indicate that is coming soon. But I guess one never knows.

MOTU seems to have done such a sterling job with it, and I've not heard much in the complaints department so far - both factors in my previous judgement.
I still reckon 6-9 months minimum. Likely a year.

Perish the thought, but look what happened with Machy.
I suspect MOTU learned a lesson with MachFive II, just quietly, so I'd not expect a ridiculous delay such as that one. :D
