Apols. for returning to a likely past subject.
I have until recently had quite a large analogue setup, but have now rationalised it to pretty much all digital. Substituted my 32:8:8 mixer with 24I/O and 2408 mk III and Cubase 3.1. Now I seem to keep getting random pops and clicks even when idle,. From time to time one of the channels goes into oscillation. Also Channels (especially ADAT channels) become active for no apparent reason. I have looked at the configuration and even removed boards, swapped boards around without being able to resolve this issue. Has anyone go any ideas or suggestions of how to potentially resolve this.

The same happened to me with my 24i/o the first day i used it.
I had it connected to the port number 4 in the PCI424 card.
It must be in port #1 if it's the only interface you have connected to the PCI424.
Check it out.
If it doesn't solve the clicks and pops try setting a higher number of Samples per Buffer in the MOTU PCI Audio Console.

I have incresed the size of the power supply which seems to have improved things slightly. I still get some backgroud crackle which stops for a while when I start PCI Audio Console for, then returns after a while,

It's not the power supply It's most likely your clock settings. Be sure that both units are set up with the same master clock (pci-424). Also be sure that the 24 is in the first firewire slot on the pci card.
