HD 192 standalone?

Post by mf5152 »

Question, Will the HD192 interface work as a standalone converter? Here is what i want to do. I have superior drummer 3 and I want to use it without a daw and go right into my console. My issue is that I need 12 outputs and this 192 has 12. If this will not work I do know that the 2408mk3 does work in standalone but is only 8 outputs so can I hook up 2 2408mk3's and get all the outputs? I know if so it would be 16 but as I said all I need is 12. Thanks!!

Maybe but there's not enough information.

What are you trying to do exactly? How are you planning to get SD3 into the 192 in stand alone.

I used my 2408 in standalone more than I did hooked up to my Mac so I'm familiar with what that can do but your question makes no sense.

I have a mac pro tower which has sd3 on it. I guess I don't know how to get sd 3 audio outs to the interface. What I am trying to do is this. Write my drums in MIDI using sd3 then route all the individual channels kick/snare etc out and into an audio interface which goes into my console then out of my console to tape. So basicaly just need to know how to do that if it is possible? Thanks.

Use your 192 as the audio interface. It will be hooked up to the Mac through the 424 card, not stand-alone.

You can also use two 2408s hooked up to the same card.

SD3 is sitting in your computer. You have to get it out. There are ways to do it without an interface but you are limited to 2 tracks. An interface of some sort is required for more.

Make sure you have the right drivers installed.

You're welcome.

So that we're all speaking the same language, Standalone is when it's not connected to a computer. An example is that you have a recorder or mixer with ADAT, TASCAM or Analog out and you want to convert to another format. OK, ancient history but they used to exist.

I used my 2408 as a converter so that I could record 8 channels at a time into my FOSTEX FD8 via the ADAT Lightpipe — otherwise, I was limited to 2 tracks analog at a time. I would then hook the 2408 to my PCI card and transfer those tracks to my Mac (again via ADAT). It worked really well for that. Otherwise, the only way I could get the tracks out was 2 at a time via analog.

My portable rig was that FD8, a Mackie 1604 and the 2408. It all fit nicely on a utility table. In my studio was a Beige G3 running DP 2.71. I could do anything with that rig.
