828mk3 Hybird OS Driver Issues

Post by omega287 »

Hi,
Having major issues with my MOTU 828mk3 Hybrid and macOS Sierra on my Mac Mini (Late 2012).

So having reinstalled a fresh macOS and latest MOTU drivers (Nov 2016) the 828 is cutting in and out and clicking like its a sample rate or clocking issue.

Connected to Mini via USB, clock set to Internal. All external 828 connections are powered off.
Re-installed drivers. No change.
I may try manually deleting all the MOTU installed files and try again.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

You did not mention you buffer settings, but I assume they are not too low and thus could be the culprit here?

Happens at all buffer setting and in all Apps (GarageBand, ProTools, Reason, etc). Been trying to narrow down the reason and have tested buffer setting a and multiple apps.
Restarting with 828 already powered seems to fix issue for a short period but eventually errors happen.
Sometimes get an error message that audio driver quit unexpectedly. But not with consistency.
Stumped.
Could it be 828 hardware related?

Yes, it could be hardware related. I suppose you have done factory reset till your fingers have blisters, but there is another hardware issue that can cause this - brownouts! (Or a power cable that is going flaky.) Try on a different circuit of your household that has very few or no other things plugged into it - I had to do that myself. If the brownouts are in the neighborhood you live in, you would need a voltage regulator to fix it (not a "power conditioner" which only removes spikes).

If you suspect brownouts, see this thread starting here:
