Can CueMix levels be controlled with sliders via MIDI?
Setup:
MacBook Pro, running Mainstage.
Novation SL61mkII controller keyboard
Kurzweil PC3le7 synth
MOTU Microbook IIc
USB hub
Passive DI box
I have the Kurzewil coming in mono on line 3 and mixed to the same output as the internal sounds, going through a di box into a powered monitor - but I'd love to be able to mix the levels of these using sliders on my Novation sl mkii controller keyboard. Is this possible?
Could I add channel strip in mainstage to allow me to mix the input rather than using cue mix? Would that allow me to control it using a slider on my MIDI keyboard?
My virtual instruments in mainstage (mainly omnisphere 2) seem VERY loud compared to my one input (the Kurzweil synth coming in mono on line 3). Not really an issue but I wondered if it was normal?
To be honest I'm still trying to get my head around creating a simple setup with this equipment. Currently used for live work, but will be moving onto Logic soon.
Many thanks, Glenn

As far as I can tell, the only remote-control access Cuemix provides is via the TouchOSC implementation for tablets, but that does work very well.

Works for both IOS and Android tablets.
[EDIT - works with several control surfaces as well. See:

Thanks Terry, I did see this mentioned in the documentation whilst I was setting things up. Looks like it could be a solution to what I want to do - although I'll need to make a wifi hotspot if I'm playing live. The link you supplied was very helpful - much appreciated.

As long as you have TouchOSC installed on your devices, you may find some of the other uses for it handy. I wrote an article for my friends at Cantabile that lists out all the default MIDI CC# and note assignments for a few of the built-in templates that come as part of TouchOSC out of the box.

I have the MCU configured in Audio/MIDI setup. In CueMix you choose the MCU as the controller. In a pull down menu. I am not sitting in my studio at this moment, but when I do I can report back. Couple of things you need to know if you are using the MCU. Which controller are you using ?

Not using an MCU myself (only BCF2000, Akai MPK249, Peavey 1600x, NI S-88, Alesis QX49), but thought it would be of interest to others here.
I can emulate an MCU in some ways via software as well. (The Behringer BCF2000 comes with that mapping available.)

Re: Can CueMix levels be controlled with sliders via MIDI?
Get it speaking first to CueMix and see what happens. A little quirky things you have to get used to. Not as straight forward as using the controller with a sequence program like DP.

I'll play around with it a bit this evening! Thanks for the tip - I would not have suspected this was possible.apanacci wrote:Get it speaking first to CueMix and see what happens. Re: Can CueMix levels be controlled with sliders via MIDI?
Found details on getting Mackie controllers to work on page 63 of the Ultralite mk3 hybrid manual, and page 110 of the 828 mk3 hybrid. It apparently is able to be set up with HUI as well, if you have that, and also an SAC-2K device, though I'm not familiar with those.
The manuals show the dialog image, but then says, "Refer to the extensive on-line help for details about configuring CueMix FX for operation with your control surface product." So, it is on to the help files for more info. Clicking the help button in the config dialog box opens this file in Windows:

Re: Can CueMix levels be controlled with sliders via MIDI?
Hey guys, anyone try HUI with CUEMIX ? My 828 Hybrid MKIII goes nuts when HUI is enabled in my MCU. Lights flash and my internal digital routing totally messes up. Careful if you are trying that with the same items. Had a session yesterday and things were totally changed.

This was after creating a new control surface from "CueMix Control Surfaces -> Configure" with the drop-down menu selecting HUI?apanacci wrote:Hey guys, anyone try HUI with CUEMIX ? I have no HUI devices to test on, but you do need to create a new control surface if switching to HUI it would seem - you cannot use one already set up for "Mackie Control" from the looks of it.

Re: Can CueMix levels be controlled with sliders via MIDI?
I have actually 2 MCU controllers. An older one and a newer one. I tried hooking up the old one for CueMix and the newer one for ProTools. As soon as I select the newer one in ProTools the MKIII goes nuts! The older MCU is connected via MIDI to the MKIII and the newer one is connected thru its USB port to my MAC. When I try that configuration in DP , both the MCU,s control CueMix. I cannot seem to separate them. I have tried different MIDI channels for the controllers, does not work.

Re: Can CueMix levels be controlled with sliders via MIDI?
Today I fired up my Behringer BCF2000 in Mackie Control mode, and was surprised how many things it handled in CueMix:
CH Vol (sliders)
CH Panning
CH mute
CH solo
CH phase flip
IN Trim
OUT/Mix Bus vol (sliders)
OUT/Mix Bus select
OUT/Mix Bus mute
Talk
Listen
There may be more, but those are the things I've identified and gotten to work.
It was a little challenging figuring out which button combos caused which things to happen, but it is working great! I may get more use out of CueMix now, actually!
If anyone else has a BCF2000 and wants more details, let me know and I'll cobble together a tutorial on how the layout functions.
