828 MK2 powering up order
I got two 828 with the firewire fried, one is coming back from repairing and the other I send it today for repairing too, Now I'm afraid, I use to have an 2408 and never take care of the order powering up, but with the 828 I did read that the powering up order is important, does anybody has an opinion about if the 828 should be powered up before or after the computer? (G5 in my case). When my 828 worked I remember had seen the screen's leds make some kind of lighting when the computer turn on, when it was powered up before the computer.

I always fire up my hardware (828mkII and litepipe-attached converter) before the computer.

Different MOTU hardware, but hardware first then the Mac.

Re: 828 MK2 powering up order
Mine is always connected but rarely on. This means that I do the opposite: Mac on first, then my 828mkII. Not sure it really matters.
What does matter is that you never 'hot swap' FireWire devices—even though the spec says that you can. A spark can take out your device, your motherboard or both.
Always have both your unit and Mac connected before you power either on. If you need to change the unit, turn everything off first.

Re: 828 MK2 powering up order
I'm really scared after had fried two 828. One has come back today from fixing but...The thing is that the firewire has power, I'm not shure but is from 30 to 43 volts. I guess one side of connection is given out power and the other is receiving it, now the asking, who gives out power and who receives it? I guess the most vulnerable is the one receiving

FireWire is bidirectional. The spec is either 22V or 24V, I don't recall.
Is 30V too high? I don't know but 43V sounds wrong.

Re: 828 MK2 powering up order
Well the voltage I said as I remember, I'm probably wrong, I test the one that has come from repairing and it goes right, but I'm still afraid. let's see.
Thanks for the help.
