Audio Express Calibration?????

Post by avsessions »

Hi I bought the audio express based on various criteria. Seems like a great little box but I have found one issue I can't seem to solve. It seems that i cant calibrate the output so that -16dbfs=0VU. That is my universal calibration for my studio. I checked with my tech and he confirmed what I'm seeing. My Avid HD IO's are all calibrated to -16dbfs=0VU. But when I switch to the Audio Express and send the same 1khz tone out I get approx -1.5dbVU. I checked and all the outputs on the Audio Express are fully up and my protools calibration session has no gain staging at all. I've calibrated Avid IO's many times and this is the first time I have an interface that can't be calibrated. I'm wondering what can be done so that it matches my general studio calibration.

I emailed MOTU customer support twice over the past month and half and haven't heard back. Is MOTU customer support known to be bad?

page 19 speaks about the INPUT trims for SPDIF using the digital mixer. My analog OUTPUTS are approx 1.5db down and i don't know how to calibrate them to my standard studio cal.
