828 Mk2 with Ableton Live Latency changes mid session

Using 828 mk2 FW with Live 9, my audio changes in mid session.... there is a glitch sound and then all of the sudden very noticeable latency. This happens during a session after about 10 minutes.
doesn't happen with any other DAW.
running an imac with 12gb ram... 10.9

ideas?
