Motu 828 Mk. II optical/digital output issue

Hi there

I'm new to this website so please bear with me. I hope I'm on the right forum here!

I am using a Motu 828 Mk II as my interface for Logic Pro (+ other audio) from my iMac.

Everything is working fine with regard to the communication between iMac/Logic/analog outputs/instruments into rear panel Analogue Inputs, etc.

However, I have connected an optical cable from the Optical Out on the 828 to the Optical In on a Tascam MD-CD1 Mk II to try and record the output from my iMac to Minidisc. Unfortunately I'm getting a D-IN UNLOCK! message on the Tascam which means it's not picking up a digital signal.

It works with digital signal from another device, so I'm guessing it must be a Motu digital output issues. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'd suggest trying Wordclock to sync the units. I haven't been able to get reliable timing sync using ADAT on my 2408-2 or 828-3.

Have you set the optical out on the 828 to S/PDIF? If set to ADAT, the TASCAM won't see it.
