smpte works well with Microexpress but not 828 ?

Hi

Ive used microexpresses with smpte input from film projectors for years
but have never been able to get my 828mk2 to work well. With the micros
the smpte reads and corrects itself though the quality from an optical soundtrack is not great and resampling is not possible. With the 828 it continually breaks up and stutters as if the 828 is much more sensitive even with different freewheel settings in the smpte console in fact it appears to not freewheel at all.

Has anyone found this or found a workaround - I assume my v1 828mk2 is not faulty as it reads striped smpte no problem

Im actually running in osx10.6.8 but same occurs in 10.9.5 whether using Reaper and have tried DigPerformer
