I have been getting away with using DP 7.24, and a MOTU 828 mkii and a MOTU MIDI Express XT on Mac OS 10.9.5 for quite a while. (Computer: MBP 2 GHz Intel Core i7) The wheel hasn't been broken, so no need to fix. Till now.
I'm looking to upgrade some other software that needs 10.10 (can't find it anywhere, so I'll have to move to 10.11), and I'm wondering what the cascade effect will be on all my other gear and software. Reading other threads here, it appears I have been doing the impossible with everything working on my current system. Lucky me!
Upgrading everything now, at once, might be impossible financially. I just don't want to install El Capitan, and find that nothing else works. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Neil

I used 7.24 with Yosemite without any problems. I assume that it would work with El Capitan, as they aren't that much different from each other. I am using a legacy Traveler (1st gen) with El Capitan also without issues. The only thing in your sig that I can say for sure won't work is Unisyn, which is why I still keep a copy of Snow Leo around.

The OS 10.11 drivers are still in beta but they work for me as does DP 7.24.cuttime wrote:I used 7.24 with Yosemite without any problems. I assume that it would work with El Capitan, as they aren't that much different from each other...
You may have to repair permissions via Terminal or Safe Boot. It's no longer part of Disk Utiliy. Not an issue with DP 8/9 in El Cápitan.

My 828 mk II works fine under 10.11. It sits at the end of a chain of devices that go from thunderbolt to FireWire 800 to FireWire 400, and so far no issues.

To be safe, clone (Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner) your current start up drive or start from scratch with a fresh install of your software on a new drive saving your old one. Also, make sure your Time Machine backup (you DO have one, right?) is up to date before you upgrade.

The older MIDI express XT does work with intel macs -
just make sure you install the right version - This may take some trial and error -
work from newest to oldest , until you find the version that works .
