MTP AV appears a new device every session

Post by unlined4string »

I can't figure this one out. I'm using OSX 10.10.5 and Digital Performer 9.01. All drivers are current version as of 9/25/2015. The Mac is a 2009 Mac Pro and the MIDI interface is a MIDI Timepiece AV (USB).

Every time I start the Mac Pro Audio MIDI Setup creates a "new" device for the MTP AV (named MIDI TimePiece AV #2, #3, #4, etc.). The new MTP AV is active but not connected to my other devices, and the old one (connected to my other devices) is inactive and greyed out.

After I reconfigure Audio MIDI Setup by connecting my other devices to the "new" MTP AV, everything works fine until I shut down. I've done a hard reset on the MTP AV several times but it didn't resolve the problem.

Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks!

Replace the unit's battery.
Mac Mini Server i7 2.66 GHs/16 GB RAM / OSX 10.14 / DP 9.52
Tascam DM-24, MOTU Track 16, all Spectrasonics' stuff,
Vienna Instruments SUPER PACKAGE, Waves Mercury, slaved iMac and Mac Minis running VEP 7, etc.

And while you are at it, replace the battery in your Mac Pro. They each take a CR2032, available just about anywhere.

OMG - Thank you.. I have been trying to figure this out now for 4 months. It started for me when I updated Cubase 6.5 to 7.5 and then to 8 Pro. I have been beating up Steinberg about it for months and they do not have a clue.. So simple except that I will need to take about 6 hours to rip apart my studio just to get at both MTPAV's to replace the batteries, but that makes plenty of sense.

THanks SO much

Yikes! Fortunately, when you remove the covers, you will see the batteries immediately.

Again, replace the one in your Mac Pro at the same time. That battery will say BR2032 if it's still original but a CR2032 works just fine (only the 2011 and later iMacs and the 2013 Mac Pro need a BR2032 due their internal heat).

Corollary to this (and thanks for mentioning the iMac having the battery) how do you know when to replace the battery? I know the symptoms to look for with the MTPAVUSB having one of my own but don't know what to look for for the iMac?
