A clock question ?

Post by apanacci »

Hey guys, I have a 828MKIII as my main audio interface. I run it at 96k. I also have a 8Pre with 8 mics plugged in and 2 lightpipe cables going out to the MKIII. The 8PRE is also set at 96k. I then sent a lightpipe cable out of the MKIII to an in on the 8PRE thinking it is sending clock to the 8PRE. Tonight I removed the lightpipe cable going out from the 828 to the in of the 8PRE and I got no pops or kliks. Is that ok to do that ? Thanks !

It is if you are slaving the mk3 to the 8Pre!

Forgot to mention I have the 828 hooked via a bnc cable for clock from a Nuendo AD/DA converter. I put the 828 into Word Clock mode

Odd. You'd think the 828 is sync'd to the Nuendo, but it's not clear what is keeping the 8Pre sync'd. But, if it works, ... FWIW, my 828-3 never worked properly using ADAT clocking. One channel, usually ADAT 7 always glitched. But using workclock, it was fine.

RE ADAT 7 causing issues...I have been using Behringer ADA8000s to feed an 828MK3, having the ADA8000 take clock from the 828. I thought I had a defective ADA8000 because I would get pops/clicks from channel 7. Is that the issue you experienced?

Yes, usually channel 7. And in the cuemix monitor I could see a low level signal all the time all the time in Ch 7. Recording that and zooming in I could see a one bit blip every one or two samples.
