24Ao Mixer - Direct Outputs / Auxes?
Hi All
I would like to use a 24Ao as a Live 'Stagebox DSP Brain', taking the inputs through the DSP Mixer, then routing each INDIVIDUAL channel (post-DSP) up the AVB Cat-5 to another 24Ao, breaking out to 24 Analog channels.
I won't be using the Mixer to 'Sum' the channels, just to EQ, Comp and Gate them.
The problem is the Mixer - either it needs a 'Direct Output' routing Post-fader on each channel, or 24 Aux sends to feed one output per channel.
Could MOTU add 'Direct Outs' to its Mixer channels, if requested?
This would greatly increase its usefulness!
How many Auxes can the Mixer have maximum?
The tech spec just says '12 Stereo Busses', which doesn't mean anything useful...
Thanks!
Since this question is not OS-dependant, and there isn't a 'MOTU Hardware Standalone' section, I also posted this in the Windows section, hoping for an answer from either...

This is all covered in the user guide.
It has 12 buses. 7 of them are auxes.
Naturally a "channel direct output" is there by default because the MOTU mixer sits inbetween the physical input (or output) and the DAW, like any other interface with DSP. So the DAW track gets whatever has been done in the mixer.

Hang on... I just answered this in another thread... probably badly...
No need to duplicate threads, Katsu. Just sayin', mate; it makes for more confusion on the board.
EDIT: Oops! I just read your caveat, and you're cleared for landing. Well done, Katsu.

OK thanks.
I _think_ what I need is the Input 'Post-FX' section, but it's not fully displayed (or described) in the guide, so can't see for sure.
Sorry for posting, won't do it again.

No, you don't need that. Read my post again above. Your question has been answered.
Re: 24Ao Mixer - Direct Outputs / Auxes?
Thanks for all the help...
As I stated I'm not using a DAW, but sending the channels up the AVB port to another 24Ao, a digital multicore, if you like.
I re-read your post, and the manual, and it's no clearer _exactly_ how many MONO auxes it can run.
And my reason for asking was I don't have a unit in front of me to try out, and the manual is very imprecise on the subject - much like the 'minimalist' responses here....
Again, sorry for bothering you all, won't happen again.

Re: 24Ao Mixer - Direct Outputs / Auxes?
Dude, as I said in your other thread, please don't feel that way!
You're welcome to post as many questions as you like; it's not as if you're doing something wrong.
My advice, if I may repeat part of it: Be patient; hopefully someone like EMRR will swing by(!). He and one or two others know far more about these units than most. Heck, someone from MOTU might even chime in.
Hang in there, mate. You could also try posting the question in the massive BeerGutz thread, but frankly I'm surprised you've not received the answers you're looking for already...

Re: 24Ao Mixer - Direct Outputs / Auxes?
Yes, me too, as it's a fairly simple question!
Thanks MonkeyMan, at least you have tried to be both helpful and friendly.
I think I'll just have to find one in a shop (yeah right!) and check it out first-hand.

Could be tricky to test the unit they way you'd like to in a shop, Katsu, but if you're able to accomplish this, more power to you, mate!
I'm still hoping the thread will be noticed by someone who knows about this stuff; perhaps this bump to the top of the list will result in this happening...

It has 7 stereo auxes that can be split into 14 mono individually. All of the channels are post fade direct outs to the network--that's how CueMix and most DSP mixers work.
