New Motu MIDI Express XT USB DEFINITELY ok with SysEx ?

Post by Silagemaker »

Hi.
I have a Motu MIDI Express 128 running on windows 7 PC. No problems with SysEx. Fastlane on an old G5 and no problem.
Am thinks of buying a new Motu MIDI Express Xt USB for its independent routing and merging without computer.
Can anyone please tell me definitely that a brand new Xt works ok with editors etc and SysEx ?
Even on Thomann site there's s 2014 review that says it doesn't.
Very important to me.
If this question has already been answered could you post a link to it?
Cheers and thanks.

Went ahead and ordered one.
Posted on Gearslulz as well and got a dozen replies so good to go.
Strange. Thought they're would be a lot more experts here than there.
Seems not.
Cheers

I don't understand why anyone would say it doesn't work with sysex, especially a reviewer.

Never had an issue here in 15 years (2 XT USB units), other than with my Motif XS racks - I send multiset info to each unit one after the other. If the units receive the sysex dumps simultaneously something happens. I can't remember what it is, but something undesirable, hence my method of dumping.

It's only ever been these racks that have behaved this way, and I've relied on sysex dumps since the ATARI days back in '91. I haven't run VIs yet, so it's been used (via the XT units) for all kinds of gear, even guitar and FX processors.

I've got a couple of MIDI EXpress XT USB's and i have found them quite fussy when using them with certain MIDI devices.

A few years ago , i wanted to use on in a guitar rig i was building , with a Skrydstrup MIDI foot controller controlling some MIDI controlled audio loopers and i set a patch up to effectively use the express xt as a 1 in 8 out MIDI thru box. The xt simply refused to pass on MIDI CC information as well as patch changes as well. Both my XTs have the latest firmware in them. Works fine with other Devices such as keyboards, drum machines ect, had to buy a MIDI thru box in the end

I suspect it has to do with not having a lot of Windows users here.
