Please help with my motu!!!!!!!!

Post by Guitarreiro »

Hi i,m from spain

It's been a couple of days since we tried to work the 24i/o in conjunction with PCI424.

We followed the installation process for mac and this is what we've got so far:

Upon clicking:

MOTU PCI AUDIO SETUP : Configure Interface "BLANK", Audiowire - "0" no inputs or outputs enable i can,t open interface options i can,t do Nothing

MOTU PCI Cuemix Console: no available

MOTU PCI SMPTE Nothing

But when trying to access MOTU Audio Setup, Cuemix Console and SMPTE Setup... Nothing,

We have tried using the firewire cable that came along with the package and tried two other brandnew firewire cables with the same Results i tríed to install first the drivers again ,(without pci 424 installed) installing later the pci 424 .......and nothing,,, i tríed to do the Same in a pc(with another pci 424 card) and nothing too.
The manual gives just a simple instruction to install first the driver for PCI424 prior to the installation of the PCI Card

The MOTU 24I/O displays a continuous blinking of Clock at 44.1kHz.

Help guys!!!!what can i do more??????

my 24 I/O interface is dead?????? : :deadhorse:
Best regards

OK, the AudioWire cable supplied by MOTU isn't a FireWire cable (AW precedes FW by a few years). You should notice that the metal part of the connector is a tiny bit longer when compared to a FW cable. If not, make the connector about 3mm longer by removing insulation on the plug with a knife or razor blade – do both ends. The longer connector is the only difference, by the way.

If that doesn't do it or you can see that one is definitely an AudioWire cable...

Did you buy this used?

What Mac are you trying to install it in? Be very specific.

Is the card a 424, 424x or 424e?

I tríed to install Again and Again The drivers (first drivers without The pcix 424 card, and changing The card in various slots.......and nothing
The cuemix console doesn,t appear, 0 inputs and 0 outputs enabled. I can,t open interface options,i can,t enable nothing
Sometimes said something like........ (General window) "launch with motu when hardware are available" and of course The neverending blink of 44.1 led in 24 I/O interface!!!
My Mac It,s a PowerPC G5, macosx 10.5.8
A month ago everything works ok!!!!!!!!! I don,t know what can i do more........

Yup, my first thought exactly. The 'puter isn't seeing the interface, and a dodgy 2nd-hand AudioWire cable is the most likely culprit.

Mike's advice is brilliant. Modifying a FW cable at least saves you the wait for a proper AudioWire one and gets you up and running for now. Even if your mods don't work for some reason (contacts not quite making the distance required for connection being the most likely), I'd still wait and see if a proper, new AW cable does the trick. Almost certainly this is the issue.

The lights are blinking 'cause the unit can't sync its clock to the PCI card, again, 'cause there's no connection.

No, I've never had any issues; the units are rock-solid, mate.

This sort of cable confusion has arisen (appeared) from time to time 'though. Many people have wrongly assumed it's a Firewire cable, which it almost is, but it's not. It's a proprietary (unique to MOTU) format. This is why it's better to get a "proper" one than to modify a FW one - if problems occur in future (which they should not!), at least you'll know it's not the cable.

Good luck, Guitarreiro.

The distributor for your country will have AudioWire cables. You can email MOTU for contact information if a Google search doesn't produce that result faster.

Naaa... stick with MOTU, mate!

Just keep trying. They'll answer the 'phone eventually.

Remember, it's not an audio firewire cable you want (there's no such thing). You want a MOTU AudioWire cable.
