Pci-e 424 to thunderbolt or usb3 connection is possible?

Post by trentemoller »

I will switch to 2015 mac pro. I have pci-e 424 and pci-424(this one is reserved for my pc)

Also I have 3pcs motu 24 i/0 and 2408 mk3 connected to mac pro with pci-e 424.

I read magma thunderbolt case is not suitable for motu pci-e 424 card.

How can I connect pci-e 424 or pci-424 to new mac pro over usb3 or thunderbolt?

If you want to keep using your current MOTU hardware, don't buy a new Mac Pro. Check out this thread…

...and consider a 5,1 dual hex CPU / GPU / SSD upgrade. You can build a 5,1 that rivals the most powerful 6,1 for waaaay less than the 6,1 will cost you.

I you simply must have a 6,1, consider the new MOTU Thunderbolt/USB hardware… it is very sweet.

Thanks, I bougt immediatley 2pcs x5670 for mac pro 2009.

I didn't prefer x5690 may be heat problem. One is 95watt other one is 130Watt.

I will remove ISH from the cpu. I hope I don't kill my cpu delidding operation.

You can't. The firmware is hard coded and it will not work. MOTU would have to re-engineer the cards which will never happen. There are a few threads on this that went on for years.

There are new interfaces from MOTU and others for Thunderbolt. When you consider the price of these vs a TB-PCIe expansion chassis (that cannot work anyway), it makes sense to look at the new hardware.

Or you can goose your older MacPro as has been suggested. If you are doing audio mainly, that can make a lot of sense. If you are doing a lot of video, it's time to move on and look at the nMP.

Mike take a look a Barefeats.com before ruling out the old MP for video. With one or two up to date GPUs, the oMP can smoke the 6,1.

Trent, hundreds (if not thousands) of 4,1's and 5,1's have been hot-rodded with X5680s and 5690s, including at least two or three owned by regulars here. I have not heard of any one having heat-related issues with 5680s or 90s, but if worred about heat, bump your fan speeds a tad and get back to work!

Good luck with the de-lidding. :smash:
