Behringer ADA8000 and 2408mk3

Post by uncle dunc »

I know... I searched already.

I'd like to use a ADA8000 for playback only, using bank 1 of the 2408 in ADAT mode. The 2408 is slave-synced to an ADAT HD24xr via the multi-pin ADAT sync cable. I'd be using the convertors in the HD24 to feed the 2408 bank 1 ADAT input via the toslink cable. According to Behringer, the ADA8000 cannot slave sync off of a 2408.
Quote from Behringer:
"Users are advised to avoid the following configuration: The ADA8000/ADA8200 SYNC option is set to SLAVE and the clock input is being supplied from the MOTU 2408."
Anyone had success with my plan?

An alternative would be to clock everything via my Lucid GENx6, (which I use when the HD24 is turned off) but according to ADAT folks, the HD24 sounds best when it's using its own internal clock.

My goal is to bypass the analog stage of the 2408. My old 2408mk3 was modded by Black Lion Audio and it sounded great, but then it died, and the replacement 2408 - a stock unit - just doesn't sound as good for recording. On the contrary, the convertors in the HD24xr sound great.

Probably not. There is a very long list of equipment that the ADA8000 will not sync to and the Alesis HD24 seems to make everyone's list.

If that works, then there you are.
