828mkii send not working

I use an 828mkii that has the Black Lion mod (sounds great so far) but the direct send jack from mic/instrument 2 is DOA, in that it outputs only hum or silence, depending on whether a TS or TRS is plugged into it. This is the case whether or not the mic pre is in use. If the pre is in use, the signal records and reads fine on the front panel, just no signal to the send. Since MOTU no longer supports the unit, I was hoping to find out a) if anyone else has experienced this particular failure, and b) if they'd had success with repair via a 3rd party technician. I've tested the send in various situations and it's definitely dead. I'm a little concerned with the lack of schematics or any other type of support being offered by MOTU for the unit.
