Intel and 2408 Mk2

Post by Tunes »

I have a 2408 I use in stand alone mode for digital transfers. I want to utilize Motu's software for some other things I want to do with regards to routing/monitoring.

Does anyone know if the later versions of software for the Intel Macs work with the 2408Mkii?

I had it running on a G4 Mac which died and I can't recall what software I was using with that DAW setup.

You wil probably need a new MOTU PCIe card to support the device, but the mkII should work fine.

Change that to definitely. No G4s have PCIe slots. You will need the PCIe-424 aka 424e card to use your 2408 (any version) in a Mac Pro, the only Intel Mac with PCIe slots. Afaik, no Intel Mac has PCI or PCIx slots.

If your 2408 is registered with MOTU, they'll sell you the 424e card for $295 plus shipping. Some resellers may have it, too.

Well I got the G4 running. Are there any issues running on Mac OS X 10.5 (using the G4 which I still have the PCI card in), or should I look at doing the intel route?

gG4 v Intel Mac is a huge jump in horsepower, but if you are only using the 2408 for audio routing, and not as the front end for a DAW running on the G4, it shouldn't matter.
