OLD Micro Express compatibility with Mac

Post by RobC »

Hello

I have a compatibility question concerning a pre -USB interface (a pretty old one !)

I have a MOTU Micro Express MIDI interface (pre USB) which I used some time ago with a PC and I love it!!! It was connected via a Parallel cable.

I would really like to use it with my current Mac, is it possible to get it to work with an appropriate cable convertor?

The port on the unit for a Mac is a serial port ( I think )

Would a driver be available to enable it to work on OSX 10.7.5 ?

What cable/convertor would you suggest I buy also ?

Many Thanks

Nope. Mine won't work either - yea, I still have one.

There was a serial-usb adapter made by Griffen when the B&W G3 came out but it's been long discontinued. In any case, there's no chance that it would work with the Intel Macs. Even the first gen MOTU USB MIDI interfaces won't do that without the updated firmware chips - also discontinued.

Your only choice is a MIDI interface that's compatible with Intel Macs. I can't find the tech note that tells you which are but any MOTU with firmware 2.01 is.

If a MOTU MIDI-USB box does not have a white sticker with M/W on it, it will not work unless the USB ROM has been replaced with the updated version 1.32 on the sticker. The screen will show that the firmware is 2.01.
