8pre Macbook Pro sound issue: output like a bitcrusher..

Post by Claude Shannon »

Hi all,
I tried searching the forum for this issue but couldn't seem to find anything.
I recently bought a Macbook Pro and when I plug in my MOTU 8pre the sound output sounds like it's being put through a bitcrusher, especially in the left headphone (I've tried several pairs of headphones). Does anyone know what might be causing this?

My specs are:
driver 1.6 59200
firmware 1.03, boot:1.01

Macbook Pro
2.5 Ghz Intel Core i5
4Gb 1600 Mhz DDR3
OSX version 10.9.1

Any help would be much appreciated!

Edit: it seems my speakers produce no sound at all...with several pairs of headphones I get this poor quality-bitcrusher output.
Edit 2: I'm also using this firewire cable:

Nevermind I managed to solve the problem by installing an older version of the driver!

Thank you! I was testing my live recording rig for a concert tomorrow and had the exact same issue after updating to the latest driver and Mavericks. The 8pre reset worked. Thank you so much!

Just wanted to say thank you so much!! I was going crazy trying to figure out why this was happening. For me, it wasn't only the left channel of the main out experiencing the symptom, but the phones out on the front too. The factory reset did it! Thank you for pointing me in the right direction! So glad I don't have to give up my FireWire 8pre!
