Motu 828 MkIII firewire with Thunderbolt adaptor?

Post by Tidwells@aol.com »

Hi!

I'm having a hard time finding a straight answer to this on the MOTU website: If I upgrade to a new MacBook Pro which has no Firewire port, will I be able to reliably run my Motu 838 MkIII (firewire only, not hybrid) interface with DP 8 on the new machine by using an Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire Adapter, or is there any other recommended adapter that works better?
Anyone using these? Thanks!

My 828mk3 works great with my rMBP using the FW-TB adapter!

looking at buying new MacBook Pro. Can I run the original MOTU 896 using the thunderbolt to firewire 800 adapter connected to a Firewire 800 to 400 cable? Thx!

Can you confirm that the original 896 works? I have to help a friend setup a new system. My plan is to use a FW400/FW800 cable and the TB adapter to his new iMac. If you have the 896 working -- what driver version are you using on your system? Thanks.

There are reports that the 1st gen 896, like the 8pre, will not work with the TB-FW adapter. Best to ask MOTU directly.

Did you get a reply to your question? I have a similar question if you look in the hardware/windows forum. I'm thinking that it is only possible with Cuemix (and maybe the 828) to mix inputs onto a bus and send the bus out to the mains or the phones. You can't do this with outputs, unless I am missing something that you are trying to do.
