Help!! Ultralite audio MIDI grayed out!!

Post by hoochp »

I hope someone has an answer for this. Thank you in advance.

I have a Macbook Pro running mainstage hooked up to a MOTU ultralite.
I've been running Mainstage since it came out
Everything has been mostly flawless till last night.

Got to the gig.
I turned everything on, plugged in all my equipment, and started playing.
Everything is cool with mixer routing etc.

I launch Mainstage and nothing plays.
I check Cuemix and there's no interface and no devices.
I look at audio MIDI and the Ultralite is grayed out.
I check all my connections, restart everything. Nothing.

The Ultralite has power and (thankfully) the saved mix in the box still works.

The only odd thing that's happened recently is iTunes locked up and froze everything. I couldn't even force quit.
I had to force a shutdown.

Any help out there. I have the same gig tonight.

What happened when you tested it again this morning?

Have you tried the new drivers that posted 5 days ago?

Please post your exact setup. Most of us do this in our signature so that anyone reading a post can see what we are running.

Same results. I haven't tried the firmware update yet.
Got though the gig using a Novation X station over USB. Good thing it has handy octave transpose buttons. Frustrating patch changes though.
The Ultralite gets power over firewire. It just isn't recognized by OSX.
The firewire cable is permanently in the case. Could it be the cable?
Off to the store I go.

I wish I could upgrade everything to latest and greatest. The free stuff I can do. You know how it is.

When I solve this, I'll post the fix.
Fixed the sig too. Thanks Mike.

Hi All,

My 1st gen UltraLite suddenly went gray this morning in AMS and now MIDI In from my ancient PC88 doesn't work in Sibelius 7.5.

I've tried rebooting etc. and it's still gray/not receiving MIDI. Under Sibs preferences the "test" doesn't register any activity so nothing is flowing from the kybd out.

I see the issue of a bad cable, could a FW cable suddenly just go bad? Everything is seated and connected properly (MIDI and FW) and has been connected without change since Sept. 2013 when I set up my system after moving. No disconnecting/connecting...

Could it be a battery problem with the UltraLite? I just replaced the PC88's battery a few weeks ago.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Re: Help!! Ultralite audio MIDI grayed out!! RESOLVED (?)

Post by joelfriedman »

Hi All,

So today I boot up my system and instead of going directly to Sibelius I open a DP project from a few weeks ago and find that.. voilà! MIDI is working again.

I then open Sibelius and... voilà! MIDI is working again.

Nothing changed. I didn't do anything. Perhaps DP "made it all work," or perhaps it's just one of those mysteries of the universe...

Voilà! I think we're good.

Best,

Joel
