MOTU 828mk2 and Control 24 / DIGI 003R

Post by granny »

Can anyone help me please

I have bought a 828 Mk2 to replace my Behringer ADA8000 and give me an additional 8 inputs in the DIGI003r. I have hooked up the outputs from channels 9 to 16 from my Control 24 to the Analogue inputs 1 to 8 on the 828 and the ADAT out of the 828 to the ADAT IN on the DIGI003r.

Everything on channels 10-16 (on the Control 24) or 2 to 8 on the 828mk2 are working fine but when I put the first channel into record on the Control 24 (channel 1 on the 828mk2) I just get a very very loud feedback buzz.

What am I doing wrong here does anyone have any idea what I need to do.

I am using the 828mk2 in stand alone mode and do not have it hooked up to my MAC - do I need to install the software and hook it up the 828?

Has anyone used an 828 to do this. If so I would really appreciate if you could point me in the direction of how to set it up.
Many thanks,

First, I'd reset the 828 to factory. I don't quite remember how to do this, but poking around or looking up in the manual is the way to go, not that hard. My thinking here is that the cuemix [i.e., the internal digital mixing board] in the 828 may have some routing set up so that the output is routed to the input, this could cause the problem.

Also, is channel 1 the mic/guitar input? Is there 1 or 2 preamps on this?

The other thing to check is the channel 1 gain. If I'm right, you can add a bunch of analog gain to this channel, and if you are not using a low-sensitivity mic, this might be the problem.

Have you tried swapping the order of the inputs to see if the problem follows the cable or if it stays with channel 1?

Great suggestions, xyz. I'm wondering if the OP ever solved this, as I'm thinking of combining 3 similar pieces of gear in a similar fashion. Far from decided however. thx!
